Quick and accurate diagnostic tests and procedures are vital for timely and correct medical decision-making. Candover Clinic offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic facilities to private patients:
Candover Clinic offers in-house MRI, CT, X-ray and ultrasound imaging. Please see the specific MRI, CT, ultrasound and X-ray page for full details.
The trust’s pathology department examines blood, tissue and other body fluids to diagnose illnesses or to check that all is well. Approximately 70% of all clinical decisions are based on results from the pathology department. Traditionally pathology includes 4 major specialties;
- Chemical pathology which looks at chemicals in the blood
- Haematology which looks at the blood itself
- Cellular pathology which looks at tissue and cells
- Microbiology which looks for bacteria, fungi and viruses that can cause infections
Each specialty is led by a consultant, they and their colleagues work closely with biomedical scientists and laboratory assistants to ensure samples are processed accurately and the results sent back to the requesting doctor with appropriate advice as soon as possible. Most samples are processed the same day they arrive, with results also reported the same day. Some specialised tests may take a few days longer.
Exercise stress tests – Candover offers private patients the use of a dedicated treadmill stress test facility. A stress test is used to test for heart disease. Stress tests are tests performed by a doctor and/or trained technician to determine the amount of stress that your heart can manage before developing either an abnormal rhythm or evidence of ischemia (not enough blood flow to the heart muscle).
Echocardiography – Candover provides private patients with the convenience of in-house echocardiograms. An echocardiogram, often referred to as a cardiac echo or simply an echo, is a sonogram of the heart. Echocardiography uses standard two-dimensional, three-dimensional and Doppler ultrasound to create images of the heart.
Urodynamic testing or urodynamics is a study that assesses how the bladder and urethra are performing their job of storing and releasing urine. Urodynamic tests can help explain symptoms such as incontinence and frequent urination. Candover Clinic operates a ultra modern urodynamics system for rapid diagnosis.
Candover’s outpatient ophthalmology suite is fully equipped with the latest technology for diagnosis of eye related problems.
